CPAP machine therapy is the most safe and effective treatment for patients with mild to severe OSA. Once the sleep doctor prescribes CPAP using the pressure determined at the sleep study, patients can contact a CPAP provider to select a type of CPAP machine and a mask fitting set up appointment. Positive airway pressure is delivered to the patient through a mask, blowing open soft tissue to allow respiratory flow. A CPAP machine does not cure OSA. Patients need to use this device when they sleep. If they don’t use it, their symptoms will return right away.
